A LETTER TO THE PARENTS

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Mighty Oaks. We consider it a privilege to serve your family. The purpose of this handbook is to provide you with the policies and procedures of Mighty Oaks.  The reason for all we do at Mighty Oaks is to support and encourage families as they seek to educate and give their children a strong biblical foundation to fulfill GodÕs plan for their lives.  Please keep Mighty Oaks and the teachers in your prayers as we do the same for you.

In His Service,

Kari Davis

Director

ÒThey will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendorÓ

  Isaiah 61:3

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The mission of Mighty Oaks is to provide classes to assist families in the home education of their children. At Mighty Oaks all subjects are taught with a Christ-centered Biblical perspective keeping this in mind: Colossians 1:15-20 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.  He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead so that in everything he might have the supremacy.   For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

We believe that God loves all people and He has a purpose and a plan for the life of each individual. Our goal is to encourage, support and help equip each student as they seek that purpose and develop their skills to fulfill GodÕs plan for their lives.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

1. The Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. (II Timothy 3:16-17)

2. There is one God manifested in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (I John 5:4-7)

3. All men have sinned which makes necessary a rebirth through confession and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 3:23-25)  It is by grace you are saved, not by works. (Eph. 2:8-10)

4. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God Who leads us and guides us into all truths. (John 16:13)

5. The local church is necessary in the maturity of the believer. (Hebrews 12:25)

6. There is a resurrection of believers into everlasting life and an everlasting punishment for those who do not believe. (Luke 3:3)

7. Creation: Classes that contain material regarding creation will follow a literal interpretation of the Biblical account of creation.  (Genesis 1)

ADMISSION POLICY

Mighty Oaks admits students of any race, religion, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities, generally accorded or made available to children at this center.

Before admitting any student to Mighty Oaks, the following must be submitted:

      * Registration must be completed and a $50 non-refundable deposit per student is due at time of registration. $100 max per family. Registration for the 2017-2018 School Year will open April 1st.

Students must be 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2016 to enter Kindergarten.  Sorry we cannot make exceptions.

4

DISCIPLINE

We understand that children are not perfect, and there may be times when they will require discipline. The disciplinary procedures are as follows:

1.     The student will be warned verbally.

2.     The student will be warned a second time.

3.     The student may need to be sent to the director. If your student is sent to the director you will receive a written note from you student or a phone call, if deemed necessary.

4.     If the behavior persists or escalates, conference will be scheduled with the parents.

5.     There will be NO use of corporal punishment (inflicting any physical pain on a student as a means of controlling behavior).

PROBLEM SOLVING

The heart behind all we do can be found in the school verse:  For they will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, for the display of His splendor-Isaiah 61:3.  My prayer is that each family involved at Mighty Oaks would take to heart this verse and passionately desire that every student at Mighty Oaks would grow in their love for God and each other for His glory.  Keeping this in mind, I believe it is important that we establish a guide for how to handle problems when they arise.

With these 3 things as our goal and focus:

Refinement, Restoration, and Reconciliation

With these attitudes:

In humility, consider others better than yourselves looking not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others. Principle from Philippians 2:3-4

Make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.  Principle from Romans 14:19

As GodÕs chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave youÉ.put on loveÉ..Principle from Colossians 3:12-14

5

Please go over the following steps for problem solving with your students!

1.     Students should use their words and try to resolve the problem with the person involved.

Student should tell a teacher right away that they are having a problem and ask them for help resolving it.

2.     If that doesnÕt work, student should speak with their parents and/or director to help solve the problem.

3.     Parents please call or e-mail me and let me know whatÕs going on.  The longer we let things go, the bigger the problem becomes.

4.     Parents, if the problem persists please contact me to set up a meeting with the students and parents of all involved.

5.     Please come to that meeting with a heart of love for both the offended and the offender.  None of us have perfect children.  We love every student in this school and want them all to learn how to communicate with people and solve problems.  ItÕs not human nature to naturally love everyone- especially the more difficult to love.  The one thing that is supposed to make us stand out as believers is our love.  John 13:35-By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

6.     LetÕs be an encouragement to each other.  Every family at Mighty Oaks is struggling in one way or another, we are all trying to train up children that know the Lord, serve the Lord and love others.  This is not an easy task and we have a very real enemy that seeks to kill, steal and destroy.  LetÕs band together in this fight for our kids hearts and lead by example.

7.     If we have a student that is really struggling in an area, it may be necessary for a parent to accompany that student to school until the problem is resolved.

As a community of believers at Mighty Oaks, letÕs work together in love to teach our kids by example how to handle problems and what it looks like to restore relationships.

LUNCH

NUT-FREE lunchroom at FBC location.  We have multiple students with severe nut allergies.  In order to protect those students we are adopting a school wide nut-free policy.  We can provide some great lunch ideas to help assist families in making this change.  One idea is to team up with another mom and one do lunch on Mon. and one take Wed.  Soup in a thermos with crackers/veggies/fruit for a side is a really great option.

Please pack your studentÕs lunch so that it will not spoil. If your student has any allergies to certain foods, please bring this to our attention in writing.

DRESS CODE

In order to insure your student's safety, please send tennis shoes for PE if they wear sandals or flip-flops.

We ask that students come to school modestly dressed.  No exposed midriff, skirts to knees, shorts mid thigh, no words on the back of pants, no undergarments showing please.  Low cut blouses can be a distraction especially when leaning over.  We will have your student call you if clothing is not appropriate.  Please help us with this we do not want to be the fashion police.

Hats are permitted if they do not cause a distraction.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS

We cannot assume responsibility for any personal belongings brought to Mighty Oaks. Personal items brought from home can be a cause of disruption in the class. Please check with the classroom teacher before your student brings any personal items to the center.  No cell phones or other electronics will be allowed at school. Exception made for classes using laptops. If a student brings any electronic device, the teacher reserves the right to confiscate and hold the device until the end of the day.

NO LIVE ANIMALS WILL BE PERMITTED FOR SHOW N TELL OR SPEECHESÉ.Thank you

HEALTH

The following symptoms will be used as guidelines for dismissal, but are not all-inclusive:

¥ Fever within the last 24 hours

¥ Vomiting within last 48 hours

¥ Undiagnosed rash

¥ Sore throat or trouble swallowing

¥ Pinkeye – conjunctivitis, viral or bacterial

¥ Difficult or rapid breathing

Students are not to return to class until there has been a 24-hour waiting period of the student being fever-free. The temperature must be taken before administering any fever reducing medicine. This also applies to any vomiting or diarrhea. There must be a time lapse of no vomiting or diarrhea before the student returns.

Sometimes, itÕs best if you keep all siblings home to prevent spreading things like the flu or strep even if the siblings havenÕt displayed symptoms yet!

Mighty Oaks will notify parents when an illness needs attention or is contagious. The student will be isolated until the parent can pick up the student.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES

In the event there is a medical emergency, 911 will be activated if warranted. If deemed necessary, your student will be transported by ambulance to the closest hospital.  Please keep all contact information current. This includes home, work and cell phone numbers.  Some but not all of the teachers have had First Aid/CPR. In the event of an emergency, we will call 911.

12

WEATHER

In the case of inclement weather we will notify you as soon as possible if we decide to close the school.  When making a decision, we will work with the church in determining if the parking lot is safe or not.  Please note: In order to be good stewards of the church, we will close if extra snow plowing would be required for us. If you feel like the roads are not safe, please use your own discretion and take a SNOW DAY!

RESPONSIBILTY

We are a non-profit 501c3. We are an enrichment center only.  Mighty Oaks is not responsible for attendance records or academic records.  Families attending Mighty Oaks must register with the state as a non-accredited private school and are responsible for all records for their children.  If your family decides to attend a public school, you are responsible for any and all records requests.
